service pack 3 v.3264 windows XP

So I had a crazy machine today.

The pc was running like a 1.2 Vauxhall nova (slow) unable to install anything, intel driver assist was not working - just painful!

Then I noticed this on the computer description page!

service pack 3 v.3264 !!!

I had to find out what this was and it turns out to be a beta release of SP3! I decided just to run the SP3 download off the MS site as windows updates were not working, link here

After downloading and installing all was working fine, windows was more responsive, updates worked and I was happy, so I thought I would share!

Office 2013 Asking for Password 365 Exchange - no reason just started happening

So todays issue revolves around office 2013 and exchange 365 accounts.  I had an issue with a user's machine that just kept asking for the password but would not accept it, the login box kept coming back up. Turns out 2013 uses an old auth method so we need to force it to use the new method. So using regedit you need to add the below key Registry key Type Value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\AlwaysUseMSOAuthForAutoDiscover REG_DWORD 1 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Identity\EnableADAL REG_DWORD 1 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Identity\Version REG_DWORD 1 You May also create a reg key file if you wanted to do a few machines Enable modern authentication for Office 2013 clients Close Outlook. System tray is Full of blank Icons - server, SBS

I had an issue today with the system tray being full of blank icons, you could see nothing and it was causing explorer to crash Run regedit navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\LocalSettings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify  Delete the two keys IconStreams and PastIconStream  Stop task explorere.exe  run explorer.exe   all the icons should now be where they are suppose to be
